The Basics of Disc Golf

Disc golf is a fun sport that is a mix between real golf and frisbee. The objective of the game is to throw the disc into the basket in a certain amount of strokes, or par. If you throw the disc into the basket under the amount of strokes necessary for the whole, you will have a better score,and be under par. If you throw it in over the amount, or par for the hole, you we be above par. Finally, if you make it in at the exact amount of strokes for par for the hole, you will stay at par. The player who finishes with the lowest score wins!

Different Discs and What They Do

Stability plays a big factor on the disc you choose for certain holes. What players mean when they say stability is what the flight pattern looks like while the disc is flying in the air. For example, If you buy a brand new disc, There will be four small numbers somewhere on the front side of the disc. These numbers mean:

• speed
  • This means how much speed is needed for the disc to have its best potential flight.
• glide
  • This number means how much time the disc will glide in the air.
• turn
  • This number tells you whether the disc will turn to the left half way through its flight, or if it will turn to the right in the middle of its flight. If this number is negative, that means the disc is understable and it will turn to the right if you throw righty backhand. If this number is positive, or over zero, that means that the disc is overstable, and the disc will turn to the left during its flight if you throw righty backhand.
• fade
  • Lastly, this number means where the disc will finish its flight. If fade is zero, the disc finishes straight. If fade is negative, the disc will finish to the right. If fade is positive or over zero, the disc will finish to the left.
